>• In a Billboard.biz guest editorial Benedict Evans makes some interesting points about the importance of content when that content becomes a commodity. “Content isn’t king anymore,” he says. “Music has gone from a key strategic lever in the tech industry to an afterthought. The same is true for movie and TV libraries—media has gone from being a choke point to a checkbox, a commodity feature that every platform has to offer, but where none has any particular advantage.” Benedict notes that “content is no longer a strategic asset” and “the money in content is dwarfed by the smartphone explosion.”
>• Bob Farnsworth, Award-winning composer and founder of Nashville-based Hummingbird Productions, has written an anthem entitled “The Greatest Generation.” The song will be performed by Helen Patton, granddaughter of legendary World War II General George S. Patton, during two special concerts in Normandy, France (June 5 & June 7) which will be commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the infamous D-Day Invasion. “This project was about far more than writing a memorable new song,” says Farnsworth. “This tune was written to thank these remarkable people who never gave up on securing freedom for millions around the world.” See the music video HERE.
