After a record-breaking 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1, songwriter Brett James steps down from the summit for some for a well earned rest. Taking up residence in the top spot is Ashley Gorley, also no stranger to the top rung on the Top 60 Songwriter ladder. Gorley previously reigned for 3 consecutive weeks on 10/27, 11/3 and 11/10/13. This time he’s powering up with six active songs inlcuding Luke Bryan’s “Play It Again” which he co-wrote with the week’s No. 2 writer, Dallas Davidson.
The transition at the top has also opened up the Top 10. Jaren Johnston explodes from No. 14 => No. 5 based upon two songs spinning the airplay, sales and streaming meters, “Beachin'” and “The South.” Heather Morgan also gains Top Ten status moving from No. 12=>No. 9.
Filling out our Top Ten this week is Josh Osborne (No. 3), Cole Swindell (No. 4), Wade Kirby (No. 6), Luke Laird (No. 7), Jason Sellers (No. 8) and Phil O’Donnell (No. 10). Congratulations one and all.
Hunter Hayes wears the Biggest Gainer hat, based mostly upon, “Invisible” and aided by “Storyline.” And there’s a force in the middle of the chart moving in lockstep. It’s duo Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney with co-writer Danny Orton who are rising due to “19 You + Me,” plus gaining added lift from two additional songs they penned as a trio. They all stepped up seven positions to land with equal points at No. 24, 25, and 26.
