Chart movements slow during the holidays. And so The Top 60 Country Songwriters chart is settling in like children awaiting St. Nick on the night before Christmas.
Taylor Swift ends the year on a high note—No. 1—for her third consecutive week. And most of the Top 10 writers remain in line like reindeer pulling a sleigh and getting ready to fly.
Josh Osborne and Rhett Akins bucked the trend however, with Osborne jumping two spots to No. 6 and Akins climbing from No. 14 to No. 9. Rodney Clawson (No. 4) now has six active songs, a chart record. And let’s congratulate writer Heather Morgan, Santa’s elves had a special gift for her— Biggest Gainer status this week climbing from No. 53 to 43!
This chart (12/15) will be the last one till after the holidays when we return with new rankings for the week of Jan. 12, 2014.

In the sales department the biggest story this week is Beyonce’s self-titled visual album. Read about it HERE. On the country side of the sales ledger for the week ended 12-8-13; Garth Brooks is back and his 8-disc box continues to light up registers at Wal-Marts everywhere. His uber-set only lost 11% in its second week and scanned 146 units giving it an impressive RTD of 310k.
Jake Owen debuted at No. 4 on the Top Current Country Albums scanning over 39k units; his last CD debuted with 55k. Another much discussed debut, Sound of Music featuring Carrie Underwood hit the BillBoard Top 200 album chart at No. 17 with 38k units.
Watching the home stretch, three weeks remain. To equal last year’s total album units of 44.6 million, country will need to sell over 3 million for each of the remaining 7-day periods. The Weekly Sales Report boxes show that not a lot has changed from 11-24 to 12-8. Statisticians, fasten your seat belts, it will likely be a rough landing.
